Home Tweak: Air Plants

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

What started as a mild fascination by now transformed into a full-on infatuation - and honestly, who can blame me, just look at those quirky air plants above!

Beside their awesome ability to flourish without soil, they also entice you with their natural vibe. As long as you place them in a room with a dash of indirect light, soak them in water once or twice a week and keep them warm, they will make your home look beautiful for months to come! Swoon...

Do you have any of those rascals? How do you display them?

P.S: Fancy growing your own pineapple plant?
P.P.S: Plus, a bit about hanging plants and this jungle flat in Brooklyn:)

The 'it' Breakfast for Dinner

When was the last time you had a hearty Croque Madame?

Oh, I can’t think of a better way to finish a day than with a comforting breakfast-for-dinner. And Natalie's take on the classic French sandwich blew me away so much, that it’s going to happen again tonight. There is something about French melted cheese mixed with this thyme and mustard infused béchamel that makes everything seem so much better! Mmm, here is the recipe.

P.S: Also, a few scrumptious takes on French croissants.
P.P.S: And all things eggs :)

Living with 500 Plants in Brooklyn

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

About 6 years ago, after Summer’s roommate moved out, she treated herself to a Fiddle leaf fig tree and quickly realized that the only way she can survive in New York is by surrounding herself with plants.

So, fast-forward to today and this brilliant girl managed to jam her 1,200 square-foot apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with 500 different plants. Honestly, she has everything, from herbs and flowers to fruits and even an actual vegetable garden growing in her closet!

Yup, she certainly has a green thumb and I love it! Plus her place looks like a little green oasis tucked away from the busyness that surrounds it...

P.S: Also, here is a great interview with Summer where she talks about her life with all her plants.

An Easy (and Natural) Way To Unclog Your Pores

How do you keep your pores squeaky-clean? Till recently, I only used pore strips, but then my friend told me to try using lemon instead and I'm totally blown away by it! Supposedly, the citric acid in the lemon has the ability to exfoliate your skin while clearing out any dirt or oil residing in your pores, so it makes for the most effective and natural remedy.

Simply cut a lemon in half and rub it over the affected area. Let it stay on your face for up to 10 minutes, then rinse and apply moisturizer, as usual. Will you try it?

P.S: My favourite superfood face mask.
P.P.S: Fancy a little 'natural you' challenge?

Fall Nails

Have you heard? This rather moody and beautifully dark inky-looking green shade of nail polish is said to become one of the ‘it’ hues this autumn. Supposedly its dark and versatile undertone makes for the ideal fall accessory.

I’m totally on board, you?

P.S: Nifty manicure tip.

Yogurt Cherries

Monday, August 29, 2016

Quick, before they are all gone! Dip some end-of-season cherries in Greek yogurt mixed with a dash of vanilla extract, then lay them out on wax paper and freeze. After about 30 minutes, you can enjoy the most scrumptious snack ever!

Try it, it's SO good:)

P.S: Also, this cherry nice cream.

Early Autumn Accessory: Backpack

Can you feel the slight season shift in the air? I love this time of the year when it still feels like summer, but something's already telling us that crispier times are coming.

Anyway, somehow each year around this time, I tend to reach for a backpack instead of my usual oversized tote or the worn-out farmers' market bag. I don’t know if it’s the old back-to-school routine still holding onto me or September always proves to be busy, but just last night I took out my backpack and I’m ready to roll.

Above are a few sassy inspirations if you fancy embracing this rather comfy style. Any favourites?

P.S: Two sassy ways to tie your scarf this fall.
P.P.S: Plus, plaid with plaid (and more plaid).

Fresh Flower Tip

Sometimes I get a beautiful and fresh bunch of peonies, dahlias or tulips - with a few buds still firmly closed - in hopes they will blossom any day now, but a few days later instead of opening up fully, they start wilting.

Hmm, so after a bit of research, I took Carly's advice and now I always encourage my freshly bought bunch by cutting its stems on an eagle and then placing them in a glass filled with warm water for just a minute before moving them to a vase filled with cold water. If you do that your fresh blooms will open to their maximum size. It's amazing!

P.S: Also, this.
P.P.S: And that.

3-Minute Mug Cake

Ok, normally I only consider something 'a cake' when it's baked in an oven, but today I’m going to break that rule - for a very good reason!

See, this mug sponge cake takes 3 minutes to make - using just a microwave - and when topped with yogurt and fruits, it makes for the most indulging after-dinner-solo-night-in dessert. Balazs has been working late most nights this week, so I’ve been enjoying this new found treat to the fullest.

Here is the easy how-to. Go on, don't fight it, just make it tonight...You know you want to:)

P.S: Or maybe you're in the mood for a chocolate mousse instead?
P.P.S: Also, have you tried rosemary coffee yet?

Nifty Manicure Tip

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

Ha! Fancy a great little tip for hardening your nail polish in a jiffy? After you paint your nails, wait a minute or two for your lacquer to dry and then dip your fingers into ice water. Yup, cold water has the power to harden freshly painted polish like nothing else, making it look beautiful. Try it!

P.S: And here is a tip to prevent your nail polish from chipping.
P.P.S: Sassy...

Home Tweak: Light Bulb Vases

I mostly use vintage jam jars, funky glass containers and pretty bottles as flower vases in my home, but lately I've been totally smitten with the idea of transforming an old light bulb into a sweet tiny bedside table vase. I just love how quirky yet understated they are. Here is a nifty little tutorial if you feel inspired to try it too.

P.S: But if you're more into something colourful, those will definitely tickle your fancy.
P.P.S: Ready for autumn? I am!
