2015 - Let's Do This!

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Am I the only one who feels happy that 2014 is coming to an end? It's been a quick, busy and challenging year, but also very rewarding and beautiful, in a way. I learned plenty, I got rid of a load and redefined what is truly important to my little family. For the first time in years, I'm ready for a new beginning and everything that comes with it.

My dear readers, thank you so much for popping by exPress-o daily and leaving the sweetest, most hilarious and utterly heart-warming comments and emails. Your notes make my heart burst with joy every single day. I couldn’t ask for a more amazing group of ladies and it's such a pleasure getting up each morning to share my little world with you. Here is to a jolly good 2015!

P.S: I'll be back to regular posting on Monday morning :)

A Jolly Good Christmas To You!

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

How are you spending Christmas this year? Are you traveling, hosting or taking it easy? Balazs, our dogs and I are spending the Holidays in London and Budapest with the whole family and tons of old and amazing friends. I'm looking forward to constant chatter, Christmas pudding for breakfast, sipping Pimm's by the fireplace, eating Polish pierogi with dad, and endlessly snacking on Hungarian kürtőskalács.

Darlings, Balazs and I wish you all a jolly good Christmas filled with joy and happiness. Let this week be merry, festive, and full of love and warmth. Be safe and happy!

I’ll surely pop in next week with a few fun posts, so make sure to check in once or twice, but in the meantime, feel free to browse through exPress-o. Maybe you’ll discover a post or two that you missed previously.

Merry Christmas!

The Best Christmas Hostess Gift.

Monday, December 22, 2014

If you're the lucky one who is going over to your parents home or friends for Christmas, the best hostess gift you can give them is breakfast for next morning. Yup, after a whole day of hosting, cooking and cleaning, their dream will be to wake up the next morning and do absolutely nothing. So a serving of banana bread, a fresh pretzel pack, a jar of homemade granola, a fresh smoothie pack or pastry with coffee will totally make their festive-morning-after magical!

My plan is to bake cinnamon rolls and make this coffee concentrate for my mom, but truly if you go with any of the 9 ideas above, you will make someone very happy this Christmas. Happy baking!

1. Basket of fresh fruits, eggs, pastries and flowers for a Christmas morning family feast.
2. Salt, sugar, olive oil and bread packed in a tea towel. Salt for sunny side up eggs, olive oil for grilled bread and sugar to sweeten the morning coffee.
3. Raspberry bread with a jar of homemade custard.
4. Breakfast granola in a box with honey, succulent or other flower and a few bits and bobs.
5. Homemade cinnamon rolls in a tin.
6. Two French baguettes packed in a tea towel topped with a jar of homemade jam.
7. Spiced cinnamon biscuits with a jar of cardamom-pear butter.
8. A few soft pretzels with a side of Dijon mustard.
9. Banana bread and honey butter duo.

P.S: Plus the best gift for people who love food.
P.P.S: Cheers!

Winter Cold and Sore Throat Remedy.

If like me, you often get sore throat or catch a nasty cold during winter, here is a great natural remedy that will keep you healthy till spring.

Place two pre-cut and washed lemons in a small jar, pour raw honey until it fills about 1/3 of the jar and let it sit in the fridge. Over the next few weeks the lemon will darken and the mixture will thicken. The peels and pulp will break down as well and leave behind a golden, lumpy marmalade that you can scoop into your tea on those dreary under-the-weather January mornings. Cheers!

P.P.S: And how about an unusual beauty trick that works?

10 jolly takes on boozy festive drinks

What's your boozy drink of choice to serve to your festive guests? In our family, Balazs is the one who mixes the drinks for everyone. On the night before Christmas, he usually makes a whole pot of his mullet wine that he serves everyone on arrival to warm up. We also have Bailey's with orange wedges and since last Christmas, this cocoa with wine. But this year, we want to add one extra fun cocktail to the mix. Something super festive for the end of the night to get people singing carols. So here are 10 jolly, boozy and beautiful cocktail ideas that might even tip you over:)

Starting with the above cranberry Bourbon fizz...

Winter sun cocktail...

Spiced apple cider with bourbon...

Santa's little helper...

Spiced apple margaritas...

Winter Champagne cocktail...

Tiramisu cocktail caketail...

Pear-ginger rum runner cocktail...

Mulled wine hot chocolate...

and spiced apple old fashioned...

Any favourites? Cheers!

P.S: And if you're planning on serving wine, here is a quick chilling trick.
P.P.S: Oh, and how to save leftover wine (if there is any).
