What's your stand on kitchen rugs and carpets? Do you like them or do you think it's too much work to keep them clean? I've been thinking for a while now about getting a proper one for our kitchen. Nothing fancy, just something neutral with stripes to go with our white decor. I love how they add a cozy feel to the room making it more welcoming and warm. Plus, since I love cooking barefoot, a soft rug would surely come in handy anytime. Thoughts? xo
P.S: How about plaid for autumn or some awesome radiator shelves?
P.P.S: Ah, this nook...

I have a tiny IKEA one just next to the sink but those photos make me think that I should consider upgrading it for a longer piece.
Definetely no - I totally don't get the idea of a rug in the kitchen...
thumbs UP! i love the idea of a patterned running in the kitchen. xo jillian - cornflake dreams
I love the look, but I don't have one in my kitchen. Keep it clean and tripping over it are the two things holding me back. (I can be a bit of a klutz!) But I think it would feel so nice on the feet, especially at the sink when washing dishes. Maybe a rag rug would hide a lot of the mess. xo, Katie
I have 3 rugs in my kitchen! We have a side door off ours so there's a big black utility rug there. Then a smaller mat in front of the sink and another near the stove. All dark colours to hit messes. Saves dishes from breaking when dropped, keeps my feet comfy while doing dishes and hides little drops and spills. I vacuum and spot clean but when they get too dirty I just throw them away and replace.
I had one in my previous kitchen but it was one that was not very expensive, so any stains we got on it, we did not feel too bad (and also I could just put it in the washing machine to clean). Now I would buy one for the dinning room table.
I'm always barefoot in the house, and I love having a rug underfoot in the kitchen. My suggestion is to get one of those small Mexican rugs or a cotton dhurrie that you throw in the washing machine on gentle. Washable is a must in the kitchen!
I think they look gorgeous, but I would be too afraid of messes!
Chic on the Cheap
I found a few really nice pieces in the new ikea catalogue, Anonymous :)
Patterned running sounds wonderful, Jillian:)
Katie, rag rug sounds like a great idea.
Carried Away, I love rugs under dinning room tables.
Thank you, Marissa! Great point. I will surely get one that we can easily wash. You're such a sweetheart!
Jill your comment made me so happy:) We are planning to get it sometime this week.
