Liquid Dance

Monday, June 30, 2014

And speaking of happiness, how anyone can feel unhappy looking at this jazzy and abstract liquid colour dance? Kim Keever is the NYC based artist who drops various amounts of colour into a fish tank full of water and documents the swirling liquids as they mix and mingle. The awesome part is that every colour combination is unpredictably unique and one of a kind.

What I love most about them is that they are incredibly hypnotizing and just by looking at them I feel totally relaxed, you? xo

Instant Mood Fix

Do you ever feel a little unhappy, uneasy and generally meh but not sure why or how to improve your mood? Well, yesterday I read an easy two-step trick that might just help.

First ask yourself: 'Am I happy right now?' If the answer is no, ask question number two: 'What obstacle is in my way?' It can be as simple as ''I'm feeling low on energy because I'm hungry' or as me this morning: 'I'm dreading the deadline that I'm not quite ready for yet'.

If you can accept your situations, fine. But if you can't, make decision about what you're going to do. For example: 'I'm going to have oatmeal for breakfast to get my energy level up' or 'I'm going to reorganize my schedule this week, just so I can comfortably meet my deadline without being late - prioritizing.'

Supposedly, when you ask yourself those questions, you momentarily pause the mind churn. That in turn allows your brain to focus on this one thing. This not only helps you figure out what to do, it makes you feel less anxious, more in charge of what is bothering you and makes you realize that it's probably not so bad after all.

Makes sense doesn't it? Would you try it? How are you today?  xo

P.S: Grounding and relaxing = productivity?

Share your sounds!

Over the weekend while BBQ-ing at a friends' house and stuffing myself with blueberries, I learned an awesome little summer music trick that I wanted to share!

Our friend Tom wanted to play us a few recently discovered tunes from his phone, but we were short on speakers, so he brought out a glass to the garden, placed his phone in it and pressed play. I had no idea you can use a simple mug or a glass to replace speakers, but it worked so well! We spent the rest of the night chatting, sipping wine and listening to Avicii. My summer evenings will never be the same.

Psst: Supposedly the concave shape of the glass amplifies the sound creating a substitute for speakers. Nifty, isn't it? Go ahead and try it! xo

P.S: Summer wine trick.

Colour Me Yummy

Thursday, June 26, 2014

Lately, I can't get enough of food art and this colour project by Sibylle is no exception! Just looking at all those food boards, my compulsive side wants me to go to the kitchen and group all the food in our fridge by colour. But truly, how amazing would those look as art prints? Green is my favourite. Yours?

P.S: Food maps, food flags and bird food.

Feeling Fruity?

Would you wear a top, a pair of shorts or a dress with a pineapple print this summer? Lately, I can't get enough of all the fruity tees girls are wearing around the city! So, as an early birthday gift to myself, I got this little dress the other week. Usually, I shy away from fruity (bold) prints but each time I put this little number on, I feel like summer in a dress:) xo

P.S: Plus a dash of sassy animal instinct.
P.P.S: And my favourite sandals this season.

Morning pancakes with a coffee twist

Found! The pancake recipe that will make early mornings worth getting up for. Yup, I mean it! Kelli is a genius for cleverly adding a bit of instant espresso to the mix. Nifty, isn't it? Well, all I can say is that, if I can have pancakes with coffee, bananas and a sea of maple syrup in the morning - my day is pretty much made. What else do you need for a perfect morning fix? No more grumpy mornings from now on, deal? :) (Full recipe here). xoxo

P.S: Plus, those with apples and this with roasted cherries. Yum!

Scenes of Life

Le sigh, there is nothing more precious than a well enjoyed little moment, is there? Being present seems so easy but in practice, there are always distractions that prevent us from taking in what each moment has to offer.

Lucie and Simon tried capturing those fleeting moments with this beautiful series by depicting normal instances of life through their lenses. Somehow those tiny jiffies of sitting at the table, taking a quick nap or just daydreaming by the window feel so intimate and darn special, don’t they? xo

P.S: A sassy GIVEAWAY Wednesday is coming up!

Do you wear specs or contacts? Does your vision get a bit blurry when you forget to put your glasses on? Well, the genius duo of Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg came up with those animated stills to give us a glimpse into the life of someone who wears glasses and lives in New York. They wanted to show how the world looks with and without the specs. Since I wear glasses daily, I’m fascinated by them, you? Beautiful and accurate. xo

Lemon Blueberry Muffins

What's your favourite berries? Blueberries are on top of my list! So when yesterday I spotted them on the farmers' market, I got a whole box. Half of it was gone by the time I got home (typical) but the other half I used to make muffins.

Well, not your ordinary muffins - hands down the most amazing, light, moist and zesty cakes I have ever had! Julia is a genius for combining yogurt, berries and lemon zest in one simple recipe!

Huge plus: they take no time to make and you will eat them all in one sitting with a cup of coffee and good company:) I'm making them again on Thursday for a breakfast picnic I'm having with a few friends.

Lemon Blueberry Muffins
(Makes 6-8. Recipe adapted from Julia Frey of Vikalinka)

- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons (60 grams) of butter
- 1/2 cup (125 grams) plain yogurt (I used Activia)
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons (3/8 cup) of milk
- 1/4 vanilla pod (seeded)
- Lemon zest of 1/2 lemon
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 3 handfuls of washed and fresh blueberries

Preheat the oven to 350F/180C. In a large bowl mix your flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and butter. In a small bowl mix lightly beaten egg, yogurt, vanilla, lemon juice and milk. Add wet ingredients to the dry ones. Add blueberries and lemon zest. Stir gently in order not to crush blueberries. Scoop into greased or paper lined muffins tin and bake at 350F/180C for 20-25 minutes. Ta dah!

P.S: How about those cookies, this blueberry sorbet or this Nutella + blueberry French toast?
P.P.S: Yum!
