Speaking of naturally cozy autumn, here is the latest simmer pot mix that I've been thoroughly enjoying for the past few days. It’s very autumn-y and totally fitting for this week since the calendar autumn is just 3 days away! Crazy right? Anyway, when my friend Sofia came over yesterday she said it smelled like the perfect fall potpourri. The mix of orange peel, cinnamon, apple, almond, cloves and vanilla reminds me of all things special about this cozy little season. Ah, I’m ready, you? xo
Here is what you will need:
- the peel of one orange
- one cut up apple
- 2 large cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon of cloves
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of almond extract
- 1.5 cups of water plus plenty more for refill
Place all ingredients in a cooking pot and simmer throughout the day while adding a bit of water from time to time. Also, you can reuse this mix for three days and store it in the fridge overnight. Ta dah!
P.S: Here is another great combination that you might also like.
P.P.S: Plus, if you only buy one thing this autumn...

This recipe has Fall written all over it. Thank you for sharing it. It would be perfect for the entrance of any home!
Chanamerle, my pleasure :)
So you truly leave your stove on all day to have this smell? I guess I can't see doing that when I have a gas stove it just doesn't seem OK. Am I understanding how to do this? It sounded great at first.
Anonymous, if you don't want to leave it to simmer throughout the day, you can just bring it to boil and switch it off. The scent will fill up your home very quickly and this way you don't have to worry about leaving the gas stove on. Hope that helps!
Just the kind of cozy and warm smell that I need right now! Nice gifts to ourselves! We can find so much bliss in little things!
Turenne, oh so true! xoxo
I was thinking on using a crockpot. first on high
then lower to a simmer. :)
Nae, great idea!
Let my 7 year old granddaughter help me make this today...cold rainy day in Texas. House smells amazing!!
I use mine in a small crock pot. Add a few cranberries, and what a nice aroma. Its nice to have it moving through the entire space on a cold wet rainy day. It gives a scent of "home"; warm, cozy and relaxing.
Debbie, awww...love!
Chanamerle, thank you for such a sweet comment. xoxo
I will try this in my crock pot! :-)
I happen to have all of these ingredients in my kitchen right now..literally running towards it while typing.Thank you for sharing!
Anonymous, yay! My pleasure and I hope you enjoyed it:)
You can always put this in a crockpot on low for the smell to linger all day.
