Have you heard that the beautiful lagoon city is flooded since yesterday? Supposedly it is a 'norm' there and Venetians just go on with their day as usual but instead of loafers or brogues they brace the high waters in rubber boots or head to toe rain suits. They open their shops, go for a swim or even water run like nobody's business.
Btw: According to this British newspaper, in recent years
Have you been to Venice before? xo
P.S: Also, Venice of the Netherlands.
P.P.S: Plus, after dark:)

Wow, that's crazy! I went to Venice with my family right after I graduated from high school, and I LOVED it. It was blazing hot and humid, and it was really strange to not encounter a single motorized vehicle the entire time we were there. It'd be super interesting to experience it when it's flooded!
o.O That's crazy!! I was going to say did Hurricane Sandy that hit the eastern US coast 2 weeks ago make a pit stop for gelato?!?!?! =P

Aqua Alta! Great pictures - would love to experience Venice when it looks like this... Once can only hope that the whole city won't drown one day, way too pretty for that!! x
I've always wanted to visit Venice when it's flooded! These pictures are great!
Rachel, I agree! It would be really interesting to experience the city when it's flooded. Venice is one of my favourite cities.
I never knew this was so common! WOW, I wonder if that water smells?
Oh Kristina, it would be such a shame, wouldn't it? But I just read that from next year, they will have those special moveable barriers that will rise from the sea bed to protect the city from flooding. Hope it will work well!
Patricia, I don't think it smells but I am not sure.
Waoh, that is so crazy! I think I could dig that!
Okay these photos are insane. I love how the Italians are just like "Whatever, our city is flooded...carry on."
This is craziness! I've never heard of such a calm way of embracing weather's power... What a cool post.. Venice is certainly on my dream list :)
Oh wow I can't get over that flooded shop with people still shopping! It must get so dirty :S
I haven't been to Venice but I'd love to go so much! So romantic x
Wow, really great pictures :D
And I've been to Venice but it was soooo sunny then :)
Wow! This is nuts! Love it how people take the best of it though.
Alexa, me too. They seem totally unfazed by the flooding. I LOVE that.
tutusandtea, glad that you like it:)
Polly, it's a very romantic place and their little alleys are made for stolen smooches:)
What? I had no idea. Thought it was a joke when clicking over. Haha, I can't even imagine the dirt that must be in the stores after the water descends. Crazy Italy...lol!
Eeek! That is amazing. I had no idea.
Sigh, someday I would love to go and steal alley smooches! :)
Laura:)
Isn't it amazing how the people in Venice embrace this flooding every year! I was in Venice in June this year..to see all those places submerged is pretty cool..though I'm note sure if I'd want to be there right now! thanks for this really cool post! xx meenal
I love Venice.. luckily i was never there during these floods or "Acqua alta" that's how we called them in Italian. I talked once with a Venetian about these floods and she told me that they know which areas are the worst so they chose other paths..for them it seems not a big deal :D but if it happens when u are on vacation it's quite annoying!
How interesting, Relydesign:)
My pleasure, meenal
