Homemade Vanilla Coffee Syrup

Thursday, October 25, 2012

Fancy jazzing up your coffee this autumn? Well, since the weather turned all crisp I decided to experiment with homemade coffee syrups and this vanilla mix is just the thing you need for those rainy evenings when the only thing you want it a hot cuppa of delicious vanilla coffee, a cozy sofa and a warm blanket. Anyway, Balazs and I love this easy-peasy vanilla syrup so much that we even made a few extra bottles to share with friends as this gem makes a wonderful hostess gift. Win-win!

Btw: Balazs also wanted me to let you know that if you don't drink coffee, it works like a charm with a cup of hot plain milk as well:)

Here is the full how to, if you fancy trying it yourself. Enjoy!

Vanilla Syrup
(Adapted from Rebecca Baust)

* 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
* 1 1/2 cups water

* 2 vanilla pods

Pour water and brown sugar to a saucepan and bring it to boil. Next, reduce the heat, add both vanilla pods and let the mix simmer until it reduced a bit for about 5-7 minutes. Turn off the heat, let the mixture cool and then pour it into a bottle of choice together with the cooked vanilla pods. The vanilla pods can stay in the bottle for up to 5 days to enhance the flavour. Store your vanilla syrup on your kitchen counter. Ta dah!

Darlings, do you drink coffee? Would you try this syrup? What's your favourite coffee syrup flavour? xo

P.S: Also, a delicious coffee concentrate and this nifty little ice coffee trick you might like.
P.P.S: Plus, a few more of my favourite takes on coffee.

It is getting very chilly here, Well chilly for us, in the evenings and yes all I want to do is cozy in with a blanket and the kitties to stay warm.

I am all about some flavoring in my coffee and this sounds delish! I love pumpkin spice in the fall, but peppermint mocha is my all time favorite...with a little cinnamon on top! :)

Yummy! I think my favorite coffee flavor changes with the seasons... I really enjoy french vanilla (vanilla+hazelnut) year round though!
