Coffee Concentrate: Fancy A Cuppa?

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

A few months ago Rebecca introduced me to an awesome brewed coffee concentrate that became a regular in our home. It’s the easiest and totally delicious way to your coffee-fix and comes in very handy for those times when a friend pops by unexpectedly. The best part is that you can have it both ways: ice-cold during summer days or cozy warm during rainy or coldish mornings.

Coffee Concentrate
(Adapted from The New York Times)

One portion will make you about 5-6 cups of coffee and you can easily keep the concentrate bottled in your fridge for a few days. It takes about 5 minutes to make but you need to allow 12 hours resting time.

* 2/3 cup ground coffee (medium-coarse grind is best)
* Milk (optional – can be steamed or cold).
* 3 cups boiled water

In a jar, stir together the coffee and 3 cups of boiled water. Cover and let it rest at room temperature overnight or for 12 hours. Next morning, strain twice through a coffee filter.

* For iced coffee: In a tall glass mix equal parts of coffee concentrate and water, or to taste. If desired, add cold milk.
* For hot coffee: In a mug mix equal parts of coffee concentrate and hot milk or coffee and hot water.

Darlings, how do you like your coffee? Hot, cold or both ways? Would you try this take on coffee? xo

P.S: Also, more coffee fun, including the ice(cube) one!

I am always up for good coffee but sometimes I don't have the time to brew it myself so I go with a quick tea instead. Now, this is my new favourite recipe. Jill

I am sipping a diluted cup of iced coffee at this moment. Now I've got coffee remorse... O.k. it's not horrible, but yours sounds so much better. I'll be trying that. Thanks!
