Unfussy and Classy

I'm utterly swooning over this cutie's hairdo. She totally proves that an unfussy twisted bun & a few cute hairpins with a matching lipstick can look incredibly stylish and classy, doesn't it? Would you try it? (Wonder where she is off to) xo

Travelling Solo?

This July our good friend is embarking on a month long solo-travel. Last week he came over for dinner and we chatted about his plans. The whole trip is a gift from his wife for his 40th birthday. Isn't that sweet? Since that dinner I’ve been reading up a storm about the subject as it totally hit the spot for me. In his teens and 20-s Balazs travelled-solo all the time. He went to the UK, Australia and around the US. Elizabeth Gilbert did it for a year in hopes of self-discovery and Jenny Diski does it because it gives her the freedom that she desires.

The one sentence I keep on stumbling on while reading about the subject is that there is a huge difference between travelling solo and travelling alone. It has to do with the state of mind, being comfortable in your own skin and simply letting go and embracing everything that comes your way. Interesting, isn't it? (And so tempting at the same time to try your own limits and truly spend time with yourself).

I’m curious what you, my darlings think about the subject. Have you ever travelled solo? Would you? If so, where to? (I would probably go to Ireland). xo

If you fancy reading more on the subject here are a few cool articles to check out:
* Three great solo travel destinations.
* Tips on going solo.
* This book looks super interesting too.

P.S: Also, my challenge this year: solo dinner dates.
P.P.S: A few swoon-worthy spots.

The Bear Who Dared :)

Here is a sweet little story for your Thursday morning. Last summer while on a holiday in Novaya Zemlya, Russia, a photographer, Dylan Coker got a glimpse of something totally unexpected. While cruising on the boat with other tourists he captured those awesome images of a young polar bear trying his luck in stealing a few of penguin eggs for dinner. The trouble was that bears are a bit clumsy and don’t deal well with cliffs. Dylan and the whole crew observed the ordeal for a few minutes before the little rascal decided to quit his hunting adventure and get back to the steady ground.

It had to be such a cool experience for the onlookers, don’t you think? Lovelies, have you ever experienced something unusual or fascinating like that while on a trip or vacation? (When I used to live in Wyoming, grizzly bears often tried to go through my garbage bins, and sometimes deers peeked in through the window). xo

P.P.S: And the sweet Audrey Hepburn and her deer.

Spring Festival Of Colour

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Oh boy, about three weeks ago on the 8th of March the beautifully vibrant Holi festival took place around the world. It's one of those amazing Hindu spring traditions where participants throw bright scented powder and perfume at each other in celebration of the new season. It’s a brilliant way to drop all your inhibitions and simply play, dance and laugh till your belly starts hurting :) Aren't those photos fun? Loves, wouldn't you love to take part in something like that? (I totally would). xo

P.S: Also, do you remember the mind-blowing midsummer night in Poland?
P.P.S: The beautiful India!

Chiffon For Spring

I got struck by the chiffon pleated bug! There is something utterly charming about a soft, flowy chiffon pleat that it fits perfectly with long spring strolls and romantic date nights. No matter the length or the colour, as soon as you team it up with a pair of flats or  strappy sandals you can totally feel the spring in your step!

Darlings, do you fancy a bit of chiffon this season? Would you wear any of the looks above? xo

P.S: Also, sweaters + skirts and this cutie.
P.P.S: Maxi fun.

Tomato Tart

Over the weekend I got a huge box of juicy tomatoes from our sweet older neighbour-lady and I really wanted to put them into good use. There is something about tomatoes that screams simplicity - in a very good way. So, when I spotted Sarah's take on a tomato tart I knew right there - it was true love :)

Just a simple sheet of puff pastry (due to my impatience, mine was store-bought but if you fancy making one yourself, Ramsey is your man), 2 huge tomatoes, bit of thyme, olive oil and finish it off with a dash of salt and pepper - Voilá, tart perfection! (And so simple).

Lovelies, doesn't it look delicious? xo

P.S: More tomato goodness.

Crikey, wouldn't you love to beam yourself through those beautiful photos of the Kaieteur Falls in Guyana right now? Even though I'm not crazy about heights, I would totally fancy spending a day there. (Yes, despite the fact that this gem is the largest single drop waterfall in the world - eek!). Just looking at those photos makes me want to take countless deep breaths, dip my toes in the cool water and get utterly lost in all that beauty. Bliss! Ready to pack? xo

P.S: Also, remember this one?
P.P.S: And the breathtaking rice fields in China!

Darlings, as you know by now, there are a few things I simply can't live without like, stripes, snazzy lips, scarves, ballerinas, foxy underwear and messy French buns, right? So, when this morning I spotted a whole tumblr dedicated to top-knots, I almost fell off my chair (literally). There is something so sassy and classy about this look that I'm simply head over heels with. Le sigh.

What's your hairdo of choice? Buns, braids, twists or maybe ponytails? Did it change over the years? Do tell. xo

P.S: More hair goodness here:)

Maia's Secret

If you fancy getting a bit inspired this morning, this video will totally do the trick. (It really did it for me). It’s an amazing short that captures the secrets of eternal youth of a 95 year old Russian ballerina, Maia Helles. Despite her elderly age, she remains independent, healthy and as fit as a forty year old. She thinks that her well-being has a lot to do with the benefits of her daily exercise routine, which she perfected, together with her mother, over 60 years ago, long before exercise classes were even invented.

Her secret to a long happy life: "simplicity, work and enjoyment". I love that and wish I would be half as fit when I'm her age. Such an inspiration, isn't she? xo

P.S: Yoga in Paris.

All In One

Monday, March 26, 2012

Blimey, Marina Ekroos is the awesome photographer behind those scrumptious images. She cleverly photographed entire recipes, including all the stages from start to finish, in one shot. I have more of a visual memory so those totally hit the mark with me. Aren't they brilliant? xo

P.S: Also,  those cool food flags and the tiny Pantone colour chip tarts.
P.P.S: The perfect duo!

The Pyjama Pants: Thumbs up or down?

I recently read that if you’re planning on embracing the relaxed feel this spring/summer it should be with pyjama pants. I have a striped pair that I bought ages ago (way before they were trendy) and they are my favourite summer running-around-the-city pants. They are surely comfy, and when styled right, they can look super snazzy, don't you think?

Here is a tip from Red mag: for a polished look, always wear a pair of wedges with your pyjama pants. Higher the better and they will make your legs look super long as well.

Lovelies, would you try this look? Or you think that pyjamas should not see the daylight? Let’s chat. xo

P.S: If you fancy a pair here are a few that you might like. Did you know that even Hanneli is loving the look?
P.P.S: And the awesome animal instinct trend!
