I bet all of you had this dilemma of trying to come up with a gift idea when you wanted to give something special, unique, even homemade to a friend or a family member. Well, fear no more, because I have one item to add to that list of such presents: Kristina's homemade vanilla extract jars! Anyone who cooks or bakes regularly will worship this precious gem. You know how recipes often mention "add vanilla extract"...and then you go on a hunt for it, and what you finally buy is something full of preservatives and artificial everything. Trust me, this will be that magic ingredient and all your freinds will say "What did you put in this cookie?"
The whole recipe seems really easy, just a big jar with a sealing lid, tons of vodka, vanilla beans...and vanilla heaven, here we come! xo
P.S: Here is how to

I've been dying to make my own vanilla extract since I bought the vanilla beans a few months ago. Hmmm...maybe this will be my next project.
super cute DIY
Love this post!
ooh, cool! Never would have thought to try this at home. Real vanilla is soooo expensive. This looks like it makes a lot and might be worth it!
Yum.......Love vanilla in so many things. Thanks! I can smell it now!
I always buy real vanilla extract at the health food store, but it can be so pricey! This sounds so simple, definitely worth a try :)
Yes! This is so wonderful. I got vanilla essence in New Orleans and it was basically vanilla pods in a jar, and when I got home I had to add rum to it, then had to shake it for something like 10 days. It's the best vanilla essence I've ever used!
This is a great idea...not only for a gift but something I would make for myself!
Fellow bakers...unite :)

Love making extracts! My fiancé and I like to keep our food as natural as possible, so we make our own vanilla extract, as well as nut extracts and stevia extract (to sweeten tea, coffee, etc). Never thought about giving this to people as gifts, though- great idea!
I love easy and cool!

When I lived in Croatia I came across a product called Vanilla sugar. I was disappointed that I couldn't find it in the States. So I made my own. You just put a vanilla bean in a jar with sugar. that's it!
