Libraries On Wheels

Monday, February 13, 2017

In the era of ebooks and Kindle it's hard to imagine that there was a time when you had to rely on these so-called 'travelling libraries' if you wanted to get your hands on a good book. Ever since the early 1850's cars, trucks and lorries - all stuffed with books - where touring around villages and city suburbs to offer locals a chance to borrow a book.

I love this! Can you imagine being the travelling librarian? The best job, ever! :)

In Them Shoes

Have you seen Lucy's instagram feed yet?

I stumbled upon it just before the Holidays and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Lucy posts a daily photo of international holidays that you probably don’t even know exist. A few of my favourites are: Pineapple Day'talk like a pirate day' and Lipstick Day.

It's a sweet and rather hilarious way to acknowledge those tiny little daily celebrations...

P.S: Faceless...

It's Raining Cats...

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Felicity Berkleef is a 21-year-old self-taught photographer from Holland who loves snapping photos of her two rain-loving cats. Yup, anytime it pours outside, Nero and Tommie sit as close as possible to the window to enjoy the serene view of the stormy weather. Somehow those two rascals can’t get enough of it and I can’t get enough of those sweet photos. What a pair!

P.S: Remember this series?
P.P.S: Plus, girls and their cats.

Triple Trouble

How sweet are those photos?

Meet Dominique Davis and her two totally adorable daughters: 10-year-old Amelia and Penny, who is just 3. Those sweet ladies have a weekly tradition of dressing up in a similar outfit or braiding their hair in identical braids, just so they can snap a photo to document their little bond. The photos perfectly demonstrate that despite the common theme and similar style, their unique personalities still shine through.

I love this idea, don't you?

Nora and Archie - The Inseparable Duo

Monday, October 17, 2016

Are you ready to have your heart melted this Monday morning? Meet Nora, the adopted 8-year-old English pointer and the sweetest 11-month-old baby boy named Archie.

The incredible thing about this little special duo is that Nora came from an abusive background and is afraid of almost everything and everyone, but the one person she trusts completely is Archie. Ever since their first meeting they became inseparable, doing pretty much everything together - like true friends. In a beautifully unexplained way, the baby provides a sense of comfort, safety, and security for the traumatized dog like no one else can.

Aw, it makes me smile to know that after all the hardship of her past, Nora can finally feel loved every single minute of her life…Special, isn't it?

The 5-Step French Girl Workout

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Ha! Leave it to Caroline de Maigret to spill the secrets to a proper French workout. It doesn't involve special equipment or fancy gym clothes, since for the French there is no better gym than the streets and no better sport than life itself - which suits me just fine!

So if you've been putting too much pressure on yourself to hit the gym more often, you might want to consider the French workout instead - giggle - so genius! Cheers.

P.S: Ah, the French decade...

Simple Home: Fall Simmer Pot.

Thursday, September 22, 2016

Simmer pots are my gem!

Since I work from home, I find that I'm more productive when my environment is wonderfully scented with all natural seasonal goodies. So since we're done with summer (pretty much), here is yet another incredibly soothing simmer pot combination that I've just discovered. Besides my usual go-to mix, this one is quickly becoming my new favourite.

It's made of half grated nutmeg, 5 cinnamon sticks, a dash of pumpkin pie or apple pie spice, a teaspoon of ground cloves (or more if you like), a bit of orange zest and 8 regular black tea bags (opened) - but honestly, you can use more or less of each spice, depending on your mood. To make it, just place all the ingredients into a small sauce pan with 3 cups of water and simmer throughout the day...

Plus, here are six more simmer pot combinations that you might want to try as well:
- the comforting early fall blend
- the classic apple-orange fall potpourri concoction
- the rainy autumn day mix
- the perfect Thanksgiving fusion
- the perfect Christmas combination
- the zesty late summer mixture

Are you ready for autumn? I definitely am:)

P.S: Speaking of autumn transitions...
P.P.S: And those adorable succulent potted pumpkins :)

Ballet Dancers On The Streets Of New York

Thursday, August 18, 2016

Remember the mesmerizing series of ballet dancers strutting their stuff on the streets of Cuba? Well, recently Omar Z. Robles created a similar series, but this time on the streets on NYC featuring dancers from the American Ballet Theatre and The Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ah, I must admit I'm mesmerized on so many levels!

P.S: NYC ballet goodness this way! And here too :)

Proof That Perception Is Everything

Thursday, August 4, 2016

Which person are you: the one that sees good in everything and everyone, or the one that tends to be more realistic, analytical or factual?

In the words of the brilliant Elizabeth Gilbert, we have a choice to see the world as grim or grad - it’s up to each of us to decide on which side we’d like to stand. A few days ago a friend pointed me toward this inspiring article Elizabeth wrote and since it has been on my mind, I wanted to share it with you too.

She started it with a clever story about her grandmother and some spilled milk, and ended it by proving that depending on who we are, we all see the world, the people and their behaviours differently.

For example, Elizabeth’s father was always under the impression that his mom was a clumsy lady who always spilled the morning milk and he actually assumed the only reason she would sip some off from the top of the glass before handing it to her children was because she tried to prevent it from spilling over. His brother felts that this daily sipping routine was a caring gesture where she tested the freshness of the milk, while their sister was convinced that their mom was simply stealing their drink.

So which one of them is right? Does it actually matter?

According to Elizabeth

‘…investigating the truth about our lives in not so important because what seems to matter in the end is not so much what happens to us, but how we perceive what happens to us. That perception, ultimately, becomes the world that we will inhabit.

This is not to say we shouldn't be honest. There are certainly instances in life when we must demand that painful truths be exposed and dealt with. Without a doubt, facts are facts. But facts can take us only so far. For instance: Everyone in my family agrees that my grandmother always sipped the milk. That's a stone-cold fact. But what did her milk sipping mean? Ah, now we have entered into the realm of perspective, and now limitless interpretations are possible.

This is why two people - or three, in the case of my dad and his siblings - can experience the exact same circumstances in life and turn out completely different. What I hear as a compliment, you might hear as an insult.

Listen, we're not always in control of our fate - and that is a fact. You may be robbed or you may be blessed (or some combination of the two, most likely), but that's not really the point. The point is: If you feel like you're constantly being robbed, then you live in a world that's all about constantly being robbed. And if you feel like you're constantly being blessed, then you live in a world that's all about constantly being blessed. What we usually see when we interpret our lives is nothing but ourselves - as the truth gets screened through a thousand-layer filter composed of all our weirdness and wonderfulness.

If we try to see things with the most generous eyes - searching for the truth, yes, but then bestowing upon that truth the brightest and kindest interpretation - we can learn how to perceive a more beautiful world. Do that, and I promise you this: You will get to live in one.’

This makes SO much sense to me. Just by looking at thinks in a more happy way, we'll likely feel happier about our life as well. What do you think? Agree or disagree?

P.S: Also, a sweet lesson on patience and this powerful advice:)
P.P.S: Plus, what are your perfections?
