Fall Food Memoirs

Thursday, October 19, 2017

If you've been reading exPress-o for a while, you're certainly aware of my unconditional love (some might even call it an obsession - looking at you, Balazs) for food memoirs. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a good story about food and life, is there?

So, here are eight new gems that are hot off the press and ready for you to enjoy this season:

From the top: 1. 'Coming to My Senses: The Making of a Counterculture Cook' by Alice Waters - 2. 'I Hear She's a Real Bitch' by Jen Agg - 3. 'L'Appart: The Delights and Disasters of Making My Paris Home' by David Lebovitz - 4. 'France is a Feast: The Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child' by Alex Prud'homme and Katie Pratt.

From the top: 5. 'Food in Vogue' by Vogue editors - 6. 'Eat, Live, Love, Die: Selected Essays' by Betty Fussell - 7. 'Feed the Resistance: Recipes + Ideas for Getting Involved' by Julia Turshen - 8. 'Nourished: A Memoir of Food, Faith & Enduring Love' by Lia Huber.

Which one tickles your fancy?

P.S: Fancy more?
P.P.S: Cake, cake, cake...

Magical Fall Foliage.

Thursday, September 29, 2016

If  you're not huge on autumn, this 1,401-year-old ginkgo tree might just entice you to embrace this rather magical season to the fullest.

This awesome gem is located within the walls of the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple in the Zhongnan Mountains in China, where every single autumn, it turns bright yellow and afterwards, all its leaves fall all over the temple grounds - making the whole area look magical.

It would be so awesome to see this in person, don't you think?

P.S: Also, the broccoli tree and a chestnut tree that you can grow yourself.
P.P.S: Plus, this Easter egg beauty in Germany.

Slip Dress Over a Top: Thumbs up or down?

Wednesday, September 7, 2016

Have you heard? The 90’s sleek tank dress and a tee/shirt duo trend is back and seems that everyone around me is embracing it to the fullest!

Just last week I spotted a bunch of girls wearing it to perfection. To me it looks like a great seasonal transition look that you can wear with sandals, sneakers and later on even with a pair of tights and a chunky cardigan on top.

What do you think: thumbs up or down?

P.S: And a few sassy early autumn essentials.
P.P.S: Go-to uniform...

Festive Citrus Wreath

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

If you're slowly but surely thinking about the Holidays, here is a how-to for a swoonworthy, festive citrus wreath to place on your door the day after Thanksgiving. I love the idea of mixing fresh mandarin oranges and kumquats with olive branch greenery. You?

Supposedly, you can remove the fruits after they have gone bad and replace them with a fresh bunch right away. Also, the base can be used for next year, as well. Brilliant, isn't it?

P.S: And this one is perfect for fall.
P.P.S: Also, Holiday hair wreath.

Fall Hair Trend: Circle Barrette

If you’re looking for an instant bad hair day fix try jazzing up your locks with a circle shaped barrette this fall. I love how a sweet little accessory can transform unmanageable head of hair into a polished look that will make you feel elegant and stylish in no time. Would you wear it?

P.S: Also, those copper goodies and tons more hair goodness.

Go-To Uniform

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Speaking of the head-to-toe black trend, here is a great example of this rather dashing monochromatic look. Ah, I just love the idea of mixing soft leather and cozy knit to create an effortless everyday uniform - not to mention making a splash with a dash of that saucy lipstick.

I'm sold! You?

1. Sweater - 2. Mascara - 3. Wide-leg trousers - 4. 2 Helena bands - 5. Leather jacket - 6. Booties - 7. Gold wallet - 8. Lipstick - 9. Hand and body cream.

P.S: Also, go-to winter boots and tons more fashion goodness.
P.P.S: Two (new) fall takes on a silk scarf.

Happy First Day of Fall!

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Ah, happy fall equinox, everyone! Last night before bed I was thinking about all the autumny things I’m looking forward to and it seems that the list keeps on growing each year.

A few on top of my list are: this potpourri and that simmer potlong cozy scarves that are belted and beautifulhot chocolate with red wine with a side of spiced pear cake. I also can't wait to start adding eucalyptus oil to laundry, decorate our flat with fairy lights and berry branches, and start taking long crisp walks each night while wearing layers or plaid with chunky sweaters...Now your turn!

And in the words of F.Scott Fitzgerald: ‘life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall’. Cheers!

P.S: A super sassy GIVEAWAY is coming up later today! You don't want to miss it:)
