Parisian Bookshop (You Can Sleep In)

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

'Books mean all possibilities. They mean moving out of yourself, losing yourself, dying of thirst and living to your full. They mean everything.' - Ali Smith

If Paris and books are your thing, you should check out the Shakespeare and Company bookstore located just under the shadows of the Notre Dame at 37 rue de la Bûcherie. It’s one of the most prestigious and unique spots on earth.

For more than six decades now, this place has hosted aspiring writers and book lovers, sometimes for months at a time - totally for free. Those people are called Tumbleweeds and they can stay for as long as they want but in exchange they must work in the shop for a couple of hours and read a book a day. Supposedly, on average people stay for a week or two, but there once was a person that lived there for a whopping 7 years! Incredible, isn't it?

Ah, after everything I read about it, this little spot is the it Parisian literary hub that will inspire to the core without asking for a penny in return....Incredible!

Have you been there? Would you like to visit it?

P.S: Shh...reading, and this little gem.
P.P.S: Plus, GAL and reading women...

I remember visiting this bookshop a few years ago. There were so many people and so many different languages floating around the store, it was truly an experience! Not to mention the actual store is beautiful in itself. Definitely a place you could get comfortably lost in.

I was just there in June and had no idea about this aspect of it! Such a wonderful shop. I could get lost in bookshops for hours, anywhere.
