What’s your secret life dream?
In an ideal world, I’d have a tiny organic garden on our building's rooftop where I grow veggies, fruits, herbs and keep bees. It’s unlikely this will ever happen, but it’s good to have a dream, right?
So, when a few days ago I stumbled upon the amazing urban-gardener-extraordinaire, Wendy Shillam, I did a happy dance:) Since 1976, this fascinating woman has been gardening her way through the UK and for the past five years she has been growing her own little (5m x 6m) rooftop garden located on top of her Central London home.
Besides budding small things like lettuce, radishes, tomatoes and wild celery, she also has big climbing courgettes, runner beans and even sweet peas! She says there is no better feeling than harvesting food that you planted yourself. She also believes that if lots of people had urban roof gardens, then we could make a real difference to our cities.
I totally agree. What an inspiration, don’t you think?
P.S: Also, beekeeping Parisian style, this day and that gem in Brooklyn.
