Reading Women

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

How often do you let yourself get utterly lost in a good book? Carrie Schneider created a project where she gives us a glimpse into a good-old-fashioned intimate simplicity. Her series documents seventy women reading personally selected books by female authors. As soon as each participant got captivated by the story, Carrie captured that magical moment when they abandon all self-awareness and allow themselves to be totally taken over by the powerful narrative of a good book. I love the power of a good story:)

What’s the last book you read that blew your socks off?

P.S: NYC subway public library.
P.P.S: Corpus Libris.

My New Year resolution is to read more. I need to find a good routine where I can lock myself in the bedroom and read without interruption from the kids, phones and all the mess.

What a great project. I track all the books I read on my blog Bookshelf page and it's sad to see the decline over the years. In 2009 I read 52 books - one a week. In 2014, it was about 16. I think what I used to enjoy so much I feel slightly guilt for indulging in now when I "should" be doing something more productive. Time for change, no?

A few months ago I read Victor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" and it really impacted my life. I've since read more of Frankl and logotherapy.

I've read about this on two blogs now and I'm more and more intrigued. I think people look at their most beautiful while reading and lost in concentration.

Oh it's been awhile since I got lost and caught up in a book. I have a couple lingering on my bedside table that I enjoy, but they just haven't sucked me in entirely. The last time was in early Novemeber when I was sick with a cold and read the new Hercule Poirot mystery and a Jo Jo Moyes book. Knocked them both out in a week. It felt really good and indulgent to just sit and read all day! I need to find another one of those books. xo, Katie
