What's your story?

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I’m curious, how did you meet your husband/boyfriend? Recently Victoria shot a fun little photo series of London couples in love. She asked them to tell her their love story. For example, David and Chloe in the top photo met at a friend’s dinner party and kept going outside together because they thought the other smoked. Turns out they were both just pretending so they could get to know each other. They’ve been together for eight months. Or Alison and Garry (second photo) were set up on a blind date almost a year ago. Sweet!

Balazs and I met well over a decade ago during my summer holiday in Europe. A few days before my vacation was over I visited Budapest and got invited for a dinner party to one of our mutual friend’s house. We spent the whole evening chatting like we knew each other since forever. After that evening I went back home and since we lived in two different counties, for the first year or so, we had to travel countless hours to spend a weekend together. It wasn't easy as no long-distance relationships are, but it worked out just fine for us. Our mutual friends often remember that night and always say that it's incredible how we 'found each other'. Here is more...

Now your turn…Aren’t those couples sweet? xo

P.S: You can read about all those couples here.
P.P.S: On love...And stay tuned for a swoonworthy GIVEAWAY Wednesday!

I couldn't bear any long distance relationship. My boyfriend and I have been together for 7months now, we work together. We've been working together for 1.5 years when I came to one office and he was making something with my colleague's PC (he's a IT-guy) and asked me why is my belly so big. Then after a month he asked me out for a movie as an apologies. Two months later we were a couple. We are not so stylish and romantic, but happy :-)

I know long-distance relationships are a lot of work: my husband and I did it for a year when I had to go back to America to finish college! We'd met during my semester abroad: I saw him at church and thought he was *gorgeous*, so I kept inventing excuses to talk to him. Little did I know, he was doing the same thing to me! We finally got together when a mutual friend asked for help performing a song and we both volunteered: me to help her, him to spend time with me! :)It's been a great 5 years.

we actually met through our blogs. we chatted every day for five months while he lived in korea, teaching english. he then flew into SF and we embarked on a 3 month road trip around the US. moved in together in oklahoma (where he's from) and now we're engaged.

so cheers to the internet! ;)

My boyfriend used to sell to my workplace when we met 6 years ago. We both had crushes on each other but I was dating someone...then he was dating someone...then I was dating someone...we kept in contact all those years. I sometimes go back and re-read our emails and its so obvious how much we liked each other even back then. Last summer, he went on a date with my friend and while on the date she told him I was single. She told me after, "I knew it was over for me at that point." After another couple months, we finally went out on a date and are still together. :-) We actually went on a lunch date "as friends" 6 years ago so for Valentine's Day this year, he brought me back to the place where we had lunch. It just goes to show that everything happens for a reason and timing is everything!

Lovely story!
My bf is Hungarian as well, he moved to Austria with his parents when he was a kid.
We´ve been together for 4,5 years now and I hear him talking to his family Hungarian a lot but it´s such a difficult language, isn´t it!

Do you speak Hungarian? Did you enjoy your time in Budapest? Where do you guys live now?

Nice post

Martie

Z & I met 14 years ago when we were both in high school. We had mutual friends but went to different schools in neighboring towns. I actually couldn't stand him for the first year I knew him; he seemed so full of himself! But the following year we ended up going on the same church trip, and we started dating. 7 years of marriage, 13 years together, and here we are!

Thanks for sharing!

My husband and I have a pretty boring meeting story (just met in college), but our "getting back together" story is pretty interesting. Long story short: we broke up because he wanted to be a priest- I knew this going into it, but I didn't think that was a problem. (?) I ended up falling for him pretty hard, which is when he realized he needed to end it. A long and depressing month later, I accidentally sliced the tendon in my thumb while making guacamole, which resulted in multiple surgeries and physical therapy. Afterwards, my husband was there every day, taking care of me. It was whilst changing my bandages that it occurred to him that he was actually living out his vocation by serving me. He asked me to take him back and the rest is history.

Great post! My boyfriend and I met at work in NYC. We had the same circles of friends but never spent time together one on one. It wasn't until we were both transferred to our company's smaller Santa Monica office that we really got to know each other and the rest is history :) We dated "secretly" for about 6 months before telling our close work friends about it!

How cool that your boyfriend is Hungarian, Martie! I understand Hungarian pretty well but I don't really speak much. It's very hard and fast-paced and it's crazy how many grammatical rules there are:) Btw: Budapest is stunning. Have you been?

Awww...HiLLjO:) And Hannah, congrats on 13 years together. That is so amazing.

My husband and I were close friends in college who always liked each other but were always afraid to talk about it (we acted on it a few times though!). We stayed in touch after college, and, after 5 years, I finally told him how I felt and fortunately he felt the same! We picked right up into dating, and after a year of distance he moved down to my city. We started dating 3 years ago to the day and have been married almost 8 months.

That's a really cute story.
I know, long distance is the hardest thing.
I met my boyfriend in kind of an unusual way...
He is Australian and I am English. He was over on holiday in England during Christmas 2010. On New Years Eve we both got on the same tube on the London Underground and started chatting. I invited him to the pub with my friends and we had our first kiss at midnight. We saw each other a couple more times before he went back to Australia. Then there was a painful 5 months of skyping and Facebook messaging before he came back to visit for a month in June 2011. We then realised that we really loved each other. And he moved over to England in November 2011. I also visited him in Aus a couple months previously. We're still together and very happy! I love telling the story of how we met. xx
