Six Decades Of Love

Fancy a sweet and touching love story this Valentine’s Day? Just a hint: grab some tissues.

James and Lauretta Burke is the sweet couple on the photos above.  They have been married for a whopping 64 years but their love story began just after World War II when they were introduced to each other by their mutual neighbour. According to their granddaughter who put the two photos together, as soon a James laid his eyes on Lauretta, he knew she was the one. He wanted to marry her immediately but Lauretta kept him waiting until she graduated from college. The following Saturday they tied the knot. They have 9 children, 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A couple of years ago Laurentta was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and as soon as she got poorly, James stepped in and they somehow became very close and totally in sync. Shortly after that James had a surgery but he kept on being strong for his wife knowing that she needs him. Sadly, James Burke passed away on November 13th last year, at the age of 87 and used his last moments planning the best possible care for his wife. The second photo represents their granddaughter’s last memory of her grandparents together. She describes it as a last tender moment between two people utterly in love with each other. She also recalls her grandpa saying “that he was going home, and that he would see them all again”.

True and incredible example of love! How long have you been together with your boyfriend or husband? How did you meet? xo

P.S: You can read more about those sweethearts here.
P.P.S: And love ever after. See you tomorrow morning, darlings. Have a smooch-y rest of the day!

oh my god, i'm crying. at work. i'm crying into my coffee.the elderly always have the greatest love stories. they never fail to make me tear up.

i met morgan 3 years ago...over each other's blogs! he mistook my OKC (okcupid) post for oklahoma city (where he originally hails from) and when i told him, 'ew, i would NEVER live in oklahoma'...we never stopped speaking since. 5 months later, he flew in from korea to san francisco and we traveled around the US for 3 months and now we're living in oklahoma city (jokes on me), engaged and set to be married next year.

love is a super crazy thing.

Wow. How beautiful!

It's hard to stop and to realize that "these are the days" we'll look back on right NOW but we're trying to do that more. It is awesome.

I met Shawn when I was 19. We have been together for 6 years this year and we're welcoming a little baby in June after all this time!

That was an adorable story, Diana!

Sebastian and I met...wow, 5 years ago now at church in London. I helped him get ready for his brother's wedding and he helped me put together a musical performance with a friend. After 2 months, I had to go back to the States, but I came back for grad school and now we're here and married with our little boy!

Aww... I should have known better than to read this... 4 days post-partum, everything sweet and touching makes me tear up!

Glen and I met when he transferred to my middle school in 7th grade. Our parents had actually known each other for years, our dads playing in the same church softball league since we were little kids. We became good friends first, then we dated our sophomore and junior years of high school, broke up, got back together in college, and will celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary this spring. :-)
