Boyish Style Hairdo: Do or Don't?

Monday, November 5, 2012

Ever since I spotted Anne Hathaway looking super sassy with her pixie, I’ve been playing with the idea of swapping my long mischievous locks for a short boyish look. I am daydreaming about sporting a boyish cut all messy with wind kissed rosy cheeks, geek-chic glasses and - will you guess it? - a bit of red lipstick :) Le sigh, wish I had the guts!

Would you be brave enough to cut your hair that short? Have you done it before? Did you regret it? Or you never looked back? Do tell!

P.S: More sassy hair :)
P.P.S: This fanciable beauty!

I would love to cut my hair short and have said I'll do it for years but never quite have the guts to..maybe next time I visit the hairdressers, I'll take the plunge! I love the top style, so chic! x

I've had short hair for more of my life than long hair. I currently am growing it out and due to circumstances in my life, throwing it up in a pony tail works for me right now. But I would love to go short again, just requires a trip to the hairdresser every 4 weeks and that creates a hassle for me. But I LOVE the short hair!!

Relydesign, even shorter? Yay, I love that and I bet that you will look super chic:)

Nancy, that is a good point. Short cuts require more frequent trips to the hairdresser. (it is a plus for me as I love getting the scalp massage)

Always a do! Love it! SO chic!
I cut my hair pixie short a looonng time ago, when I was 14... let's just say I was a little ahead of my times. and my boyfriend broke up with me... hahah at the time sad... now looking back, amazing. It gave me confidence, spunk and I was so much more interesting than all the other girls. Haha Now and again I think I want to do it again... but I think I will try shoulder length first... i have had long hair for a long time.

it's not the hairstyle for me, but these lovely ladies sure do look adorable in it!

I couldn't pull it off, but I just love it. I'd have to give up nutella to have the face for this, and that just can't happen.

I have and will never again.
I miss it as soon as it is laying on the floor ;)

IT looks amazing on certain gals but with my height and body style the "excuse me sir's" are what I need in my life
I prefer to be a gal not a sir

I would loooove to be able to pull this off, especially since I am awful at doing/hate having to do my hair, but I love long hair...and once it's done, it's done! Eek. Maybe someday. Either way, I definitely say DO on this one, for the general population. It's a super cute look.

I cut my hair one and a half years ago and I'll never look back!! Although, I have very little, baby-fine hair which looked awful when long, so that probably had a lot to do with my decision to go with the big chop.

I did notice that while my hair styling time was dramatically shorter, by makeup routine became much more involved, mostly to avoid the "look like a boy" issue that (depending on personal preference) comes with this cut. Mostly I rock a bright/bold lip and mascara.

I've chopped my hair super short before, and didn't love it. I think it's cuter if you have smaller facial features, but it didn't quite work for me. Thankfully my hair grows quickly!

Definitely agree, with the glasses and red lipstick...
cause it makes it shout louder, I'm fun and definitely a woman!

I love, love short hair on women. Unfortunately I have very fine hair and so ifs I cut my hair too short it looks like I'm balding!,,

I unfortunately do not have the face for a short do but these ladies look adorable

Definitely depends on the girl if they can pull it off! I wonder if I could pull it off...maybe I'll do this one day...

Never Never Never I couldn't!
Although I know it makes some woman's lives easier... it would just be weird to not have long hair!

Laura, how interesting! You know, you just reminded me of an article I read recently. It said that a big change like a hair-cut or a radical hair colour can boost confidence so much! Love your comment and I bet that you looked amazing with your short hair.

Kelly, giggle - I LOVE nutella as well.

How fitting! I have been contemplating this for the past month. How does one know if they have the right face for it?? I have tried a variety of virtual hair sites- not very helpful.

Diana Mieczan said...

Relydesign, aww I love that you live in Italy:) Stay cozy!

willistone, It's a hard one and I totally agree with you - virtual hair sites are not great! I read somewhere that if you feel comfortable in a pulled back hairdo or a tights top knot, you should be very comfortable with short hair too. Also, the best person to ask is a trusty hairdresser. They know all about face shapes so they could really help.
