To Trench or Not to Trench?

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Speaking of French autumn style, any Parisian would tell you that a well fitted trench is a must. I own two: a cream coloured and since last week I have a navy blue as well. A few years ago a friend gave me an advice that stayed with me till today: "style staples are worth investing into as they're timeless and you will enjoy creating memories wearing those items forever. They never go out of style and they will always make you feel the part". Well, I’ve been hesitant about going with navy this year but after spotting Kate wearing the most beautiful navy blue trench I simply couldn’t resist. What do you think, loves? Would you wear a navy trench? What’s your trench colour of choice?

P.S: Plus, ins & outs of trench-wearing.
P.P.S: And a few other trends you might like.

I've been thinking about treating myself to a quality trench and I couldn't decide on the colour. But I think you just convinced me to navy blue. It's really timeless. Thanks.

ps: where did you get yours?

I love trenches!! I have an amazing silvery-gray one, and my other is one of my favorite thrift store finds: an grayish-blue one that only cost me $2!

It took me ages to find a trench that was just right for me, and I love it. Mine is black.

Wow what beautiful style!
I love the navy blue. No need out here for a trench coat but they are super classic staple pieces. I totally took that same style advice this year for my fall wardrobe Plus as i get older classic is best :)

Congrats on your new wardrobe acquisition! :) I have a beige one too, and I would definitely go for a navy one (over a black one, for instance!) I agree with your friend's point. As for this particular piece, when I was shopping for my trench last year, I was hesitating between two, and the only difference was the lenght. I went for the longest one, as I found it more 'elegant,' while the shorter was more 'sport/casual' I'd prefer to 'dress down' an elegant piece than to dress up a casual one. Did you guys encounter that dilemma too? XOXO

Only $2, Stephanie? That is pretty cool:) What a fantastic find. And Amy, so true - "classic is best":)

I totally agree with you, Elsa. A bit longest trench is always super elegant and as you said: its so much better to " 'dress down' an elegant piece than to dress up a casual one." Brilliant note!

I adore the look of trench coats. I got rid of one over winter that didn't look great. The one I still have is stunning - it's chocolate brown and looks a million dollars every time I wear it. I bought it in Las Vegas so it comes with many memories and more to be made!

By the way, I think navy is a great choice. If I needed another one I would consider navy as black is too harsh on my skin tone. Love the inspiration pictures, I always love your style curation!

Well that's it. Now I need a navy trench. I am so glad you posted this. I have a tan one, but navy... that is what I need!
