Eat Happier

Monday, September 10, 2012

Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Or are you a meat eater? Recently I overheard something interesting in a doctor’s office while waiting for my turn. Supposedly meat-free diet boots your mood and makes you happier. Who would have thought? It is all due to reduction of AA - the fatty acid found in meat. I’m not a vegetarian and I eat meat occasionally but I’d love to try reducing it even more for a month or so to see if I feel any different. Any thoughts? xo

P.S: It also reduces our carbon footprint.
P.P.S: Today it's a soup day for me :)

Before I married my husband I used to eat meat very rarely but since he is such a meat-eater I started to get it weekly. Wish I could go back to eating it once a while. Those veggies look so good. Jill

In the same market as you. I also am not vegetarian, and eat meat occasionally. However, as you also, I want to eat less.
My thoughts are eat more berries...so good for us....I don't always eat the whole berry...I juice several different types.
My other thing is: Fruits...at least I try one or two a day...I hear how good bananas are for you, and though I eat them, certainly not a fav. However, I put them into my monthly menu, somehow. Since, I find they are stronger in flavor when 'real' ripe....I instead eat it when it's just right. Goes down easier.
I know more beans, humus, mushrooms (the want to be meat) are great sub's.
Hope this helps.

Just to let you all know before making your respective decisions:

"The metastudy reported mortality ratios, where lower numbers indicated fewer deaths, for fish eaters to be 0.82, vegetarians to be 0.84, occasional meat eaters (eat meat less than once per week) to be 0.84. Regular meat eaters and vegans shared the highest mortality ratio of 1.00."

My hubby and I decided to cut out meat for 3 weeks, just to test it out. We were alot happier, and even though we decided we wanted to eat meat again, we did cut out pork.

I have been a vegetarian for 5 years now. I am a super happy person but I was before as well so I can't say it's the diet really.
I do still love the smell of bacon cooking :)

I totally believe this. I am much happier when I eat less meat, but I love it too much to give it up!

I go into the category of omnivores! hehe! just kidding! In realities, my Italian heritage is reflected very much in my eating habits ... basically Mediterranean, resulting in meat 2 or 3 times a month ...

Big hugs!

I honestly felt so much better when I was a vegetarian... but I started craving meat one day and never looked back. I am very tempted to go back again soon. Everything functions better.

This is so interesting. We rarely eat meat at our house and have recently cut out gluten as well, and I can tell a big difference in energy level and an overall healthy feeling, which I'm sure contributes to a better mood. That, combined with cooler fall temperatures makes for a happy soul!

Jill, they really look scrumptious:) I so fancy some fresh carrots right now.

Great ideas, Lena. Hummus is fantastic and berries are so healthy, aren't they? Also, HiLLjO that is such an interesting piece of information. Thanks!

I eat meat probably 3 times a week! I wish I could eat something healthier. My husband is a meat and potatoe kind of guy. I would eat sushi every day if i could. I also hear that meat is not the best for you. Protein can be found in nuts or other food types.

So I agree with you!

Amanda, that is so interesting. My friend recently cut out gluten from her diet as well and she feels wonderful. I am so happy for you:)

Jeanette, congrats on 5 years. That is incredible and who can blame you for loving the smell of bacon, right? It really is delicious:)

We don't eat a lot of meat in our household, a bit of chicken and we do love salmon .... I have recently given up sugar (well I have a very small sprinkle on my morning oats) but apart from that ... I can not believe how much better my skin and mood are (not to mention I have lost weight too) the main thing is no fat free things, fat free often equals lots of sugar ....

Diana Mieczan said...

Oh yes we also love salmon and fish in general, Mandy. Btw: I've tried a while ago cutting sugar out of my diet for 2 full weeks and I managed to stick to it for about 10 days. I felt so much better and more energetic. I should try it again.

I don't eat meat and I think is true what they are saying about the health benefits. Everyone should embrace to eat less meat. It's a winwin
