Blue Trees

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

As Konstantin Dimopoulos says, trees are the lungs of the planet. But as they are largely invisible in our daily lives, this Australian artist painted their trunks blue (with environmentally safe paint) to make a strong statement and raise awareness about forests being destroyed each year. I'm the first one to admit that on occasion I get way too preoccupied with everyday stuff, and I simply don't notice the beauty that is around us, especially now, during the blooming season. Aren't they beautiful? xo

P.S: If you're in Vancouver or Seattle or even New Zealand you should check them out in person.
P.P.S: Also, this breathtaking Japanese flower garden and magical butterfly tree.

(Thanks Vanessa)

So striking. I'm glad they used eco friendly paint, too. Makes me think about something I realized a couple weeks ago:

A tree is always beautiful and profound, whether I notice it or not. But I revel in the moments where I get lost in their visceral and familiar beauty.

These photos have stolen my mind for the rest of the day.

I think this is amazing, it will certainly draw peoples attention, your not gonna miss a blue tree are you. We once passed a blue tree on a trip up to north wales, but it was covered to protect it for some reason

Very cool! I love the contrast between the blue and the orange leaves especially. I love it when artists make such important statements in a visually-compelling and non-offensive way.
