NYC Subway Public Library

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Guess what I've been up to this morning? I spent it sipping coffee and browsing through this awesome new tumblr called the Underground NYC Public Library. The girl behind the camera, Ourit photographs the reading riders of the NYC subways. Oh, and it's free of charge to join (if you have the pass already - giggle).

Loves, do you read while commuting? I used to do that all the time when I worked away from home. xo

P.S: Also, fine dining on the NYC subway.
P.P.S: 1940s NYC!

when i have a book that i can't put down, i read it everywhere! i once found myself taking the subway too far because i couldn't stop! haha. :) i kind of miss it, but there's nothing better than biking to work now!

I used to as well, when I worked away from home. Such a wonderful habit.

So true, Ana. I loved the mornings in the subway. They felt so calming and it seemed that everyone needed that little time to themselves before the doors opened and the rush kicked in.

I ALWAYS read. Any time I am sitting (or standing) still or have any waiting time. That's why, despite being parcial to the printed word, I also love my Kindle :-)

I can't remember the last time I've been on a NYC Subway and DIDN'T see someone either writing in a book or reading...Cute lil project! I'll have to check it out!

It warms my heart to see people still carrying books. I hope it never ends. I don't live in a commute type city (and of course I work from home) but when I travel, I'm always reading or listening to an audio book.
My daughter has embraced the Kindle for her commuting because she is already so many law school books around - lightens the load.

Not much public transit here or I would love to read during my travels! So cool that there are lots of people who still read books-- fellow nerds unite! hehe :)

Amazing series! And it's a nice change to see people with books instead of phones!

that was my favorite part about taking the subway. I always had a place to read.

These photos make me nostalgic. I was the biggest subway reader, known to miss my stop! Love the concept of this photographer!

This is an awesome set of pictures! I mean when I was in NY last summer you saw people reading all the time! If I lived somewhere like that I would read on the way to work. But it doesn't work so well when you have to drive yourself. LOL.

I have never experienced the subway but am an avid reader. I always carry a book in my bag so I can steal 5 or 10 minutes any chance I get! I would for sure be one of those readers! Love that she took their pics. Now I'm going to check out what they are reading!
