Travel Fantasy: One of the happiest countries in the world

Monday, December 5, 2011

While getting my daily dose of news I spotted an interesting article about the Kingdom of Bhutan. The beauty of this tiny Himalayan country (which is about half the size of the state of Indiana) made my jaw drop. It's not only located in the most picturesque part of the globe but it's also famous for being one of the happiest countries in the whole world. How incredible is that? Also, it's the birthplace of the concept of "gross national happiness," an alternative to the more traditional measure of gross domestic product. Isn't it pretty? I just want to take a big breath of that crisp mountain air. xo

P.S: Interesting: residents started to watch telly and use internet only twelve years ago. Crikey!
P.P.S: Hidden in the Alps.

Bhutan has been high on my travel list for quite some time now, it must be an amazing place! travel is quite expensive there as you have to pay a certain fee per day ( I guess something around 150 USD), which includes a guide, not sure if food. But one day I will for sure go! :)

You might like this book - A Baby in a Backpack to Bhutan by Bunty Avieson - it's a great insight into life in Bhutan from an Australian's perspective. I read it about five years ago and loved it so much I read it twice.

Stunning photos and sure an interesting and beautiful place. Wish to travel there one day.
I can only hope the fact that the country has been only recently introduced to the internet, won't change too many things for them.

Galit, after what I read, it seems that they are still very restricted in internet use. There is some type of law for it.
