Bicycling - Parisian-style

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

The other day I spotted a brilliant article by Laura Neilson about how to look like a true Parisian while cycling no matter where you are. It’s a fact that French ladies have the je ne sais quoi quality mastered to perfection. They always look understatedly-snazzy with au naturel-messy hair and totally effortless. So here are a few tips to French-biking-perfection I love:

* Always wear normal clothes while biking. For French girls it's just a form of transportation not a type of exercise. (No sweatpants or sneakers required).

* Cute ballerina flats & heels are a must for cycling in style.

* Old-school style cruisers are the IT bicycles right now - their build makes them ideal for riding in a skirt.

* Baskets are essential and mostly attached in the front. French girls don't just carry their baguettes and groceries in them: they also toss in their bags.

*And of course do not forget to wear tons of layers in neutral colours for those cold windy days and let your hair flow in the wind.

Lovelies, fancy feeling French while cycling? xo

P.S: What do Parisiennes wear in the snow?

I love this!
I never ever where workout clothes while riding my bike, ick that would throw off the whole point of riding for fun. :)
And my basket carries, bags, stuffed animals and blankies :)

Best tips ever! I want to get a bike here, but all I can find are the new mountain sporty types that just won't cut it for French style. x

TOtally! When I bike I really wear jeans, cute top, cardigan, and put my bag in my basket. But never flats because of that one time it fell off in the intersection and Mr. Branflake had to go run and get it.

Oh my goodness, Tiffany, how lovely of your husband! I have to be careful not to loose my flats while biking from now on. Yikes!

After seeing this I have decided that a wicker basket is a necessity.

Isn't that basket adorable, Carrie? I have one in honey-colour!

This makes me wanna put on a really cute outfit and go ride my bike! I say I have a grown up Barbie bike. It's a pink cruiser with streamers coming out of the handle bars. I had to have it, even though it is nothing like my style at all. The irony was too much to pass up.

Christianna, your bike sounds pretty awesome and Di, I bet! There is an older lady on our street that rides her bike daily with her little black dog. Its the cutest thing, I agree.
