What's your love story?

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

This short makes me weak in my knees! It's a beautifully made short story by James W. Griffiths of bringing two people in love together across the Atlantic.

Isn't is heartwarming?

Little over ten years ago it was Balazs and I who had to travel countless hours to go for a coffee or spend a weekend together. We used to live in two different countries and pay enormous phone bills (it was still before the Skype-era). I'm the first one to admit that long-distance relationships aren't easy but sometimes they work out. We still have lots of amazing memories from those times, like eating dinner together in two different restaurants, taking a walk in two different parks or even watching a movie together - but apart. As fun as that was I'm glad that now, over nine years later we can do those things without thousands of miles of phone cable.

So, darlings, I would love to know your story. Have you ever been in a long-distance relationship? Or are you in one right now? Did it work out or not so much?  How did you meet your boyfriend/husband? What's your love story? How do you feel about long-distance relationships? xo

You're right, that was fantastic - so creative, I really enjoyed it. No long distance romance, my husband and I met here in Phoenix where we both lived. Though I only met him in my 20's, I feel I have loved him all my life so perhaps we had a long distance relationship for the 20 some years we hadn't yet met. :)

That was so cute! I'm currently in a long distance relationship and while it is very hard, it makes us value the little time we have together and I know those good times outweigh the bad. :)

Met my husband at college. We traveled for several years and eventually ended up getting married and starting a family! He proposed in Italy!

Diana,
I love romantic stories like this! I had a brief long distance relationship with my late husband.

I lived here in Kansas City and he was in San Diego and came here to visit friends. We met when he came to my office. That was in November. He invited me to San Diego for New Years and we were engaged in La Jolla and married in March!!

Oh my goodness, YES! After dating for 2 years, my hubby and I spent *2 YEARS* away from each other...him living here in the U.S. and me in BRAZIL! We could only write to each other...it was super hard...but we both agree that it was good for us and our relationship and only made us stronger. But I would *NEVER* do it again! (c:

The photos are great! I can't wait to watch the video (we can't stream at work)

Mine is not a long distance but I'm inspired by those relationships that actually work with so much distance between them :)

i guess we were long distance when i was living in france (and he was living in maryland in the us). and then when i got back from that he had graduated and i still had a year of school left and we were 3 1/2 hours apart. but that was easy peasy compared to being across the atlantic in different time zones.

Oh wow, that video was genius! I'm a big fan.

Though I'm single at this point in my life, I love hearing about people's love stories. Every single one is so different, and I can't wait to find out what mine is!

My love story :: My boyfriend and I actually went to the same high school and were friends, but we were always dating other people. In college, the timing was finally right, and we started to date. 5 years later we are still going strong! :)

I love this! Luckily, I have never had to deal with a long distance relationship. I followed my (now) hubby to Indianapolis. Never thought I'd end up here, but it's worth it to be with him :)

My love story is not as poignant but we did have our moments. My husband (then-boyfriend) worked the night shift while I worked days, and we lived about 2 hours apart. So every weekend, he'd drive after work and I'd stay up to greet him at 3 a.m. on Saturday mornings.. I remember the feeling..

Another wonderful question for a post! I LOVE that video (I tweeted it!). I am not sure if an hour away is considered long distance, but it is inconvenient. So I had to deal with that for a couple years, but not any more. We met through a mutual friend, so nothing too unique, but it was an instant connection.

You will have a fantastic story for sure,Christianna!!

Long distance relationships are hard especially when your 15, still in highschool, and your boyfriend is going to Afganistan for the next 4 years. unfortunatley things did not work out :/ its hard to be there for someone who dosent want to there anymore

Aubrey, I feel the same..hahah

i felt so nostalgic upon watching the movie. my husband and i met on the internet. i am confessing right now that it was a web site for marriage. i never though about getting married but i registered myself to the website and the website was making an analysis of your character and your choice of the kind of person you would like to meet and it was offering a few people every day that were supposed to be suitable to your character and needs. one day, i saw a suggestion and send an icon of coffe and thats how we started talking. We started talking on the phone and on the internet becaus ei was living in another country. it was a tough but nice time for both of us because we had to fix everything according to each other. some days i didnt go out with my friends because i had an online appointment with my boyfriend. i was desperately waiting for him to be online. I was getting extremely happy on his surprises when he came to visit me as a suprise. a few months later, we decided to see each other face to face and we did. Exactly 1 year later, we got married on the same day.
Now it feels like a dream and we still cannot believe that we see each other everyday for the last 11 months. yes we got married 11 months ago. :)
cheers

Your story is so sweet! What a great idea to do things together while you're apart.

Nick and I had a long commute relationship. He lived where we live now and I lived in Seattle. On weekdays, the commute could be an hour and half between us, so we just saw each other on weekends. It made us really appreciate the weekends and the time we had together. I'm sure you know even more so!

Thank goodness no more long distance for us. My husband and I did it for about 3 years. We got married in Hong Kong, the next day he was on a flight to New Zealand and I was on my way to Australia and we didn't see each other for another 6 months. It makes the relationship stronger but I'm glad we're not doing it anymore - now we find new things that take our relationship from strength to strength :) BTW I love this post Diana :)

LOve that! My Husband and I were in a bit of long distance relationship in College. We were 4 hours apart and he drove up to seem almost every weekend for 4 years. I'm pretty good at long distance and enjoyed having a bit of my own time and life. Plus it made every Friday terribly exciting. Not that they aren't already ;)

This is so neat! I have never done long-distance, but I have friends that have and it sounds super hard, but worth it!

My husband and I met on the commuter train in Philadelphia. After exchanging phone numbers, he did not call right away, so I decided to give him one last chance and waited for the train he usually took. He met me on the platform with a bag of peanut butter cups from the chocolate store in the train station. I thought that was very romantic.

In the beginning the train ride was our date every night during the week and then we spent the weekend together. We still take the morning and evening trains together everyday to our jobs.

What a great video!

I've known my husband since 1st grade, so we've been friends for a long time, dated in high school for a bit, and got back together in 2004. We sustained a long-distance relationships (states apart) for almost three years before getting married!

oh so sweet! i love this sort of thing. i met my partner, dannon, when we were in college. i had a massive crush on his roommate and dannon had a massive crush on another girl. skip forward 8 years and that girl he liked and the roommate i liked are now married, and dannon and i are married. we totally did the ole switcheroo! still, it wasn't an easy path. dannon and i dated for a year in college, long distance for 5 months, then we broke up and went our separate ways. later we both ended up in san francisco and reconnected. we were both involved with other people so we started all over at the beginning of a friendship together. we were just friends for a couple years when we realized we were having feelings for each other again and began dating. 3 more years of that and we decided to take the plunge. our engagement only lasted 4 months, but we figured there was no use in waiting after all those years. thanks for sharing this short, and what a beautiful blog you have!

Awesome video. I love it.

My love story? I'm in the thick of it now. I moved from New York to London to pursue my dreams and after 3 years and various other relationships, I met a Colombian guy who I fell head over heals for. He wasn't happy in London and missed colombia so he decided to go home and invited me to come. We were together for less than a year and I packed up my life in London, quit my job, gave away all my stuff and got on a plane to Colombia where I've been living with him and his family for the past 5 months. Story in progress...
