Good Read

My darlings, what are you reading this winter? I just finished this cool thriller entitled Perilous by Tamara Hart Heiner. I usually go for lighter reads but this chilling tale about a group of teens who were kidnapped and their journey of escape was so captivating that I couldn’t put it down because of all the amazing twists and turns. This suspenseful tale is for people who like to be kept on the edge and it's truly a page turner as you want to know more and more about the teens. So, now I am ready for a new book. Any recommendations? xoxo

P.S: Stay tuned for special GIVEAWAY Wednesday...

I'm reading a classic "20,000 leagues under the sea". The "Poisonwood Bible" was an interesting book - it started off slow for me but told a haunting story of the experiences of a family in Africa.

If you haven't read any of Steig Larssen's books (the Dragon Tattoo series) those are my favorites in a LONG time.

Also, I know my "what we're reading" photo on my home page shows Cleopatra, A Life, by Stacy Schiff, but I haven't actually started it yet. I'm waiting - IMPATIENTLY - to get it from the library (on a waiting list). It's supposed to be an excellent biography.

Merci!

Sounds interesting but perhaps a bit too scary for me - love the jacket though. I finally read Dominique Browning's wonderful SLOW LOVE - highly recommend. And like MerciBlahBlah I am currently finishing up the Dragon Tattoo series. Then I have a HUGE pile by my bed - shouldn't be allowed in a bookstore for months!!

Sounds like a great book! I just bought a new book last night, but I can't even remember the name. The cover just grabbed me.

There is nothing I love more during the winter than curling up with a book, a blanket, and a cup of hot chocolate! Right now I'm re-reading Madame Bovary, I have a cute, old Modern Library edition that smells fantastic. (I read with all my senses!)

But if you're looking for something lighter, have you read "Twenties Girl" by Sophie Kinsella? The plot sounded completely ridiculous to me and at first I didn't have high hopes for it, but I ended up really, really enjoying it!

The Kite Runner is really gripping. Les Miserables is a classic with BEAUTIFUL wording, and The Phantom Tollbooth is a fun, clever read. Those are some of my favorites from back when I actually had time to read!

This sounds so scary! I must read it.

Ooh, I LOVE thrillers of any sort! Have you read Patricia Highsmith? She's the ultimate psychologically creepy story writer.

I'm currently reading a PG Woodhouse novel (recommended by a friend), even though I should only be reading as research for my papers. I won't bore you will all the ridiculous non-fiction that goes in and out of my life. :)

With all the reading I've had for school, I haven't had time to read anything for fun. But now that finals are done I'm going to read a book I picked up at the beginning of the school year. Look Again by Lisa Scottoline

Have you read The Time Traveler's Wife yet? That is always my recommendation for people who haven't read it.

From this, it sounds like you might like The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo series. They're definitely page turners. (Though don't get discouraged - it takes around 200 pages before you really get hooked). I also love Haruki Murakami. Try The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.
