Home Inspirations: Dining Table

Tuesday, October 19, 2010
We are looking into getting a new dining table before the Holidays so the whole family can comfortably fit in and enjoy the celebrations (right now, our table can fit max of 5 people). I would love to score a unique piece (like the top one made of up-cycled door) with a mix of chairs so everyone can choose their favourite one..hahah.
Totally love the idea of mixing the bench with chairs and the floor lamp is very inspiring...
The lighting fixture in this image has 100 bulbs but only 10 are active and they light up the rest. The raw table top gives the most homey feel ever!...

Dears, I would love to know, what do you consider when buying a new dining table? xoxox

They're all amazing, but I do love that first one - love reclaimed materials always! We've been looking for a new table too, and I'm all for one that seats more people, and looks simple and chic (not heavy, clunky "gentleman's den").

I've been stressing about my table too, I long to have big dinner parties but our table came with the flat and is connected TO the counter...and yeah, max of 5 people. so lame!

my next table will be round - but my dinning room really will only work with a rectangle - i got a table like the 2nd to last - it's got the wooden planks for the top - and it's dark and distressed - i have it paired with 2 benches and 2 head chairs that i switch out for different ones ..

but next home (ya know if i ever do the marriage and family bit) - i hope to have a larger seating area where i can have a LATGE round table - so everyone faces each other and easy to talk

you should try it out together with the chairs to see that you can sit properly and comfortable!
I love wooden tables a bit edgy...

Oh I've only ever bought one dining table and it's a second-hand, circular mid-century style with one of those hidden panels that open out and increase the size of the table. perfect for special occasions!

we inherited ours from my husband's grandparents. It was bought in Massachusetts in the forties. It badly needs refinishing, but I can't bear to do it. It's round and I love it. I don't love the chairs however, which are not the original. I would love to find some mismatched chairs. I never know where to look!
I love the recycled wood look too.
Best,
Tina

We wanted a giant dark wood table too - just a simple slab with simple chairs, and enough to seat 8, so we ended up buying this one from Ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00116265 We love it - it's surprising heavy and sturdy and solid for Ikea.

We always get ones with a leaf. Best space saver and since I love company it allows for a lot of room. I love that last one!

We've been desperately trying to find a dining room table too...so far I've not had much luck. They all seem to be too narrow. If you find one that's really wide let me know:)

That lightbulb feature is gorgeous! Clever! I may be able to make something similar in my own home. You've got me feeling creative!

I'm on the search for a new table too, so I'm in the same boat! I look for easy to keep clean, dark colors, big details. I like a table to look heavy and sturdy (not a fan of the delicate stuff).

I love the first picture best - I know it's supposed to be about the table, but I'm kinda stuck on the lights!

When I look for a new table I consider the whole room as well as what it adjoins to so there's at least an element of flow. I got my table from some guy who shipped it from Asia and then didn't want it so practically gave it away! It's teak though so I don't think I can ever get rid of it - it's too heavy! argh

can't wait to see what you find!

ok, i'm totally in love with that 100 bulb light fixture. incredible!

we've never bought a dining table. we inherited my grandparents teeny one (which i love), but is about right for the space we're in.

but one day, the table of my dreams will be one long expanse where i can squeeze in everyone i love around it. :)

great inspiration photos. I wish that when I purchased my dinning table I would have thought ahead and tried to get one with maybe a leaf so it would extend, but I was totally caught up in the moment and got one that can fit 6 max :(

Love the old reclaimed door. Our dining table is my parents old one, and it is actually a dark red glass splashback on an (older) black wire frame base. Simple, yet little bit different, but weights a ton!

I LOVE the second ond, co-ordinating the tables, chairs and flooring is awesome. As for me, my dining table has to be sturdy, and scratch proof and easy to clean :)

These are great Diana. I, especially, like the top table made out of a door. I should've saved the door that we threw out last month :-). I would love a new table, however, I think I'm stuck with our old one for a long time. It's dark brown and heavy, but I'm wondering what it would like "white." What do you think?

I can't wait to see what you choose. All I think about is beauty and function when it comes to furniture.

oh how i adore that upcycled door table!!! my current dining table is a raw butcher block style that i scored free from work when we moved offices. though now the table usually serves as my shop workspace (with paint splotches to prove it) so i envision it turning into a shop table eventually.
