Travel Fantasy: Venice

Monday, September 20, 2010
There is something surreal and romantic about Venice. Balazs and I've been there twice already and looking at those photos, I can't help dreaming of all the amazing architecture, tomato-mozzarella ciabattas and sipping freshly grounded coffee in one of the little family run cafés while enjoying the views. That is exactly what I want today:)...How about you? Have you been to Venice before? xoxoxo

Isn't it lovely! A great place to dream about. Will and I spent a day there in 2006 during their Carnivale - amazing!

I've been there once and actually... I hated this city. Can't help that, I think there are more interesting cities in Italy. I know, Venice is unique because of water channels instead of streets, but somehow I don't like the atmosphere there.

When you're ready to travel to Venice, let me know - I'll come along!

I've been several times... very romantic indeed! I could really do with a holiday. I am so tired! No rest over the weekend, either, our new place is far from finished... every day we have people coming in... to install lights or shower doors or something! And all that time I am stuck in the new place without the internet. SOB!!!

Gorgeous photos! I've never been to Venice, but it's definitely on my travel bucket list :-)

When I was growing up (in Sardinia, Italy) my parents couldn't afford to travel much, but I'm trying to make up for that. Next destination: London, in less than 3 weeks!

I was there a few years back. Beautiful indeed!

HOpe you enjoyed your weekend with your friend.

Hey there! Thank you for the lovely comment on my blg and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond, these are lovely pictures, I went to venice once for the day when I was about 12 years old I think, and from what I can remember, it was beautiful xxx

i'm so jealous. i've never been to europe before, but i'm dying to go. i just need a sugar daddy to send me over there ;] haha

so sorry ladies, i need to comment this or else i will just die... i live 2 hours from venice and i've been there many many times. maybe more than i wanted. i go there for only one reason - venice bienale, because it is one and only and i love it and embrace it with all my heart. but otherwise i don't like venice. it is basically full of runoffs, full of people and pigeons. italians are said to be worlds best sellers and i can guarantee it's true - they putted lamps along those channels and they've made runoffs to be most romantic place in the world. i find that ironic. the town is (just as any other crowded place) dirty and those pigeons everybody is so keen to feed are just cherry to the top. did you know that they feed them with special seeds, mixed with contraception to make them infertile because there are so many of them?
i know it has many galleries and museums, but it is overrated. next time if you go to italy - instead to venice, go to town, called Grado. it is small town, with great long beach, has clean sea (where people actually can swim) and it is not as expensive, it is as romantic, it has bridges as rialto, but it is not as popular as venice.
really, i 100% recommend it!
and i'm sorry for this negative review, i just get so upset each time people get sentimental about venice.. there are millions of amazing towns in italy and venice ain't one.
but it is still up to you, right? :)

I love love LOVE Venice! And I soooo agree with your description - absolutely surreal! I must admit though, it's not a city I'd pack up and go to live, but I'd take it on any cold day.

What a lovely post!!!!
I am from Rome and have been able to escape to Venice on a few occasions and I really feel like it is a whole other atmosphere, which I love because I can escape reality for the day!!!
Venice is beautiful, just a little expensive so it's worth sleeping in the Veneto country side which is only a 15min train ride from Venice :)
You must also have the traditionally Venetian drink, the Bellini!!!

i love venice!

i've been 3 times, and the last was a day after the 'aqua alta' receded (when all the city was flooded). we didn't even know it had happened until AFTER we'd returned from our trip. we can really be oblivious sometimes. :P

ps - i love that it feels like a very different place in the summer and in the winter. ;)
