Breathing Space

Wednesday, July 7, 2010
From a beautifully calm garden to a busy park bench or restaurant, we all have our own private sanctuary. Mine is a coffee shop near our home. It's my special breathing place when I need a chance of scenerio...As soon as I sit on one of their armchairs, plug in my notebook and take a sip of the coffee ...within a few minutes I am completely relaxed and at the same time very focused... :) I don’t know if it’s the huge sunny windows or the smell of freshly grounded coffee and chattering but it does the trick every time :)

Do you have your own little sanctuary?

Have a great day, Darlings

definitely a coffee shop w/out hubby and daughter! a good strong coffee and a fabulous read and I am all set. Second option is a nice massage and steam at the spa. :)

Massage and steam sounds lovely too:)

There's a coffee shop/bakery 10 minutes away which is good because not only do they sell fab cakes/sandwiches/coffee but I get out of the house and have time to empty my head/think en route. Otherwise I go for a walk round the park - but I agree with Clare B, riding my bike is a great way to relax so long as I steer clear of those busy London roads!

I am always daydreaming wherever I am... in a coffee shop, too. So, no focusing on important stuff, but I love the athmosphere of those places.

Your space sounds divine and such a world away from my life!
You will find me in one of the hammocks on our verandahs, breathing in the salty air at the beach or like Clara I've been taking to my bike of late.
Ooh and when really inspired, I'll gather blooms in the garden.

I love the act of creating that space. Right now, I don't have one. Transitioning from storage to an apt on Saturday will allow me to get started. While staying in IN, it has been a screened porch... until we had to move to a new house... haha

This is such a sweet post. You are so inspiring.

My giant front porch in my nice, quiet neighborhood. Or the hammock in my back yard. Or at the piano or on a big soft recliner in my den. Basically anywhere in/around my house except my husband's messy, messy office.

Also, I was going to try an experiment in not drinking coffee this morning, but your post just changed my mind. ;-)

My bed!

Your sanctuary sounds wonderful! Mine is actually just my bed. I like to prop my pillows around me like a little nest. Then I snuggle into my nook with my laptop and blog, or curl up into it with a good book.

Have a beautiful day, Sweets!

Thank goodness for sanctuaries. Mine is my back porch. I'm sitting out here as I type as a matter of fact. Starting my mornings off here always makes for a good day :)

That is a gorgeous photo.

Honestly, I don't really have to go anywhere special. If I can get some quiet solo time then that is enough for me to regroup. Granted, I don't have kids--if I did I would probably have to head to the nearest coffee shop! lol

My sanctuary is first of all my home. I always miss my home so much when i have to leave for a couple of days. secondly, a spot beside the river (I live near a river) to feel the fresh breeze in my face and enjoy the view of the landscape. And thirdly when I'm getting pampered, whether it's at the hairdresser or a beautysalon. I love getting pampered!

I think everyone agrees getting pampered at a spa is pretty awesome. I do love a good coffee shop, myself, and I do love being at home.

My sanctuary is the backyard of our house. The house is backed to a greenbelt. It's always very relaxing and peaceful being out there. All kinds of birds.

I wish I had my own sanctuary. Right now I live in a stuffy apt that doesn't even have a balcony! Some day I hope to have a yard and a hammock that I can relax in, enjoy the breeze, sip some tea, and take some ME time!

My sanctuary is my bed. I curl up there every night and morning and do my daily blogging. Its so comfy its hard to get up!

Tayebug said...

That sounds so nice! I don't have a sanctuary and I need one badly. I don't think I ever feel calm AND focused like that. How nice it would be.

Coffee shops are so great, I adore them. But I would have to say my favorite place is my bed, big feather and down pillows, feather and down doona and feather and down underlay, it's like laying in a big cloud !!!

Krysten @ After 'I Do' said...

Usually the library does it for me, or curling up in bed.

I'm lucky to be living in such a beautiful space in the English country side these days that everything in and around our house feels like a sanctuary... But having a coffee with you in YOUR café - I'd love that! xoxo

Valerie said...

Yes! I'm a total homebody, so my sanctuary is my apartment. I feel most relaxed on weekend mornings, drinking coffee, watching cooking shows and/or reading a good book. Your coffee shop sounds wonderful too! Maybe I should find one of my own. :)

My family's estate in Germany is the perfect sanctuary right in the heart of the forest and the green country. No neighbours, no cars ( except the family's ).

Gosh, I love this. We all need a little distance, a little bit of breathing space :)
I love going to the beach and just sitting and looking out at the ocean. It really puts everything into perspective for me, and my thoughts transcend those petty annoyances that get to me in daily life. It really provides the physical and mental distance I need to get away and remember what's most important :)

I sure do... my bathroom. Specifically my tub!! :-)

I love this picture! Your spot sounds perfect :) Mine is a certain place at a park I love to go to. There is something so special about having a spot that is all your own.

My bike has become my sanctuary. It takes me away from the constant din of the household. On it, my mind is freed of input, and I finally have the chance to empty out.

'Course, I'd also love to dance alone on that rooftop at night...

Diana Mieczan said...

Dominique.....Wow...dancing on the roof sounds magical:)
