Blissful Daydreaming

Tuesday, June 15, 2010
As I sit on my balcony, enjoying the beautiful sun, I can't help thinking about my grandma's house and all the fun things I used to do there as a child....It was always so much fun to play around in her garden. It was full of treasures and beautiful trees....I adored the swing my grandpa made for us and I used to spend hours swinging and daydreaming about the big world and who am I going to be....Nowadays when I walk by a playground I cant resist to have a quick spin…Naughty? Maybe :)....I don’t know why but for some reason I still remember and love the blissful feeling of being up in the air....feeling the wind kissing my face :) For those few seconds I can still feel like a little kid with scratched legs from all the tree climbing :)

What's your dearest childhood memory?

Happy Daydreaming,

i use to swing NON STOP on my swing set in my backyard - and while i was on the swing, i sang! - my poor neighbors!!! - i LOVED swinging - and i still to this day run over to a swing when i see one!!!

my best memory was when i was little - i use to buckle my dog into an umbrella stroller and walk him in it up and down the street! - every single day! - and he would sit in it like a lil baby too! .. this actually got brought up @ my 30th surprise birthday - what fun memories!

It's important to keep that child side of you alive and happy. Every once in a while I pass a playground and I'm tempted:) Have a lovely week.

Hands down best childhood memory is spending summer weekends on the beach with my parents. Mom working hard on her tan, dad napping in the shade, me perpetually in the water. Mom would bribe me with a bologna sandwich and fruit every couple of hours to force me out of the water to warm up a bit and then I'd be back in again. Loved every minute. I think for me the feeling people get when they are flying through the air is what I feel when I am swimming in the sea.

My favorite memory was pedaling to the pool on my bike in my swimsuit with my towel over my handlebars and a sweaty dollar bill for a popsicle. Back then, they would have "adult swim" time and the kids had to get out of the pool. I remember laying on hot concrete on my belly to keep warm in a line with my friends, popsicle juice dripping down my fingers and the smell of chlorine. I would stay all day and go home tan and blond from the sun in time for dinner.

Haha I secretly love swinging too, it gives just such an amazing feeling!
I am an only child, so filled a lot of time with writing my own stories and illustrated them myself! I still remember how proud my mom acted when I showed her one of my mini masterpieces ;)

coming home from a day at the beach, laying on a blanket on the floor with my siblings, all tan and sandy, while my mom blasts our tiny window a.c. unit and we eat pringles and watch movies while a summer storm hits.

We were desert folk, so our idea of fun was a lot different than most kids. My favorite memories from childhood are of my cousins and me hiking out past the flood control ditch behind Grandma's house to the place where 6 or 7 antique car bodies- sans wheels- had been dumped decades before. Renegade target shooters would use them for target practice, but we pretended to be teachers and bus drivers and ice cream men (and ladies) and race car drivers. Afterward, we would collect the broken bits of china and pottery, also used for target practice, which littered the entire area. We'd bring them back to Grandma's in faded paper grocery sacks and rusty coffee tins and bury them like pirate treasure under the desert shrubs around her property and beyond. Blissful innocence... What perfect joy!

Oh, swings are so much fun!! I used to have one when I was little in my garden and it was a pretty bad one but I love sitting on it! I wasn't very fond of my childhood so I can't really say I have any favorite memories!

Ahh swinging, yes! Such an amazing feeling.. like your so tall and weightless. I loved going to my Grandma's as a child, they lived on a big old farm with lots of land to run and play on. I'm way to scared to climb a tree, or chase animals, or run around barefoot in the grass. Being older and having more knowledge of the world makes us so unchildlike in that it's hard to let go and be carefree. Ah, I miss it. Great post :)

I love to swing! That's still my favorite when my boys and I are on the playground. I wasn't a tree climber, though .. at least not once I figured out that there were *bugs* in the trees!

Hi Diana,
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog - I'm following you now so here's to a wonderful, virtual friendship!

My dearest memories are of playing in the garden with my brothers and going to the beach - and I love Baltic amber!

Hello lovely Diana!

It is difficult to say which one is my dearest memory, but one of the first ones of the dear ones was a discovery on the water. I was around 4 year old, and my Father took me in his canoe to observe birds in the reed. I still remember discovering a nest with black dotted eggs inside. It was so magical to see at that age!

Sooo funny! I keep thinking about swings. This past weekend I was watching a little girl swing on one and remembering the exact feeling I had as a child. It was the most exhilarating feeling! :) xoxo
